How Can I Be Prepared for Invisalign?

Everyone wants a beautifully aligned smile, but many people are hesitant to commit to orthodontic treatments that involve wearing irremovable metal braces and observing irksome dietary restrictions for as long as several years. Thankfully, Invisalign can straighten out teeth using a sequence of customized clear aligners that can be removed so the patient can eat whatever they want. Here’s what you can do to be prepared for your first Invisalign appointment.

Step Up Your Oral Hygiene

While people who aren’t undergoing orthodontic treatments only need to brush their teeth at least twice a day, you can expect to brush your teeth after every meal while wearing Invisalign. This will prevent tooth decay by keeping your teeth free of bacterial growth or food debris that could be sheltered from your mouth’s natural cleaning process by your clear aligners. Getting on board with a more intensive oral hygiene regimen before you begin treatment can help you start the Invisalign process strong.

Put Together an Invisalign Care Kit

Since you’ll still be going to work and socializing while wearing Invisalign, you’ll have to get used to practicing oral hygiene on the go. A great way to make this easier is to put together a travel kit with all of your oral hygiene and Invisalign supplies. Find a suitable and washable satchel or other travel container and fill it with a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, and a travel-sized bottle of mouthwash. It’s also a great idea to pack over-the-counter pain medication, any orthodontic appliance you may use to remove your aligners, and your protective storage case.

Get Used to Less Snacking

For your aligners to work properly, you will have to wear them for at least twenty hours every day. You should only remove them for meals and oral hygiene, and you’ll have to thoroughly clean your teeth and your aligners before you put them back together. Since it’s important to wait at least thirty minutes after eating before brushing, you won’t have a lot of time every day to take your aligners out for a quick snack. Getting used to snacking less can ease the transition into wearing Invisalign. If you want to get more out of your snacking sessions, try enjoying healthier foods.

Invisalign has helped many people enjoy straighter and more beautiful smiles. By being prepared for your treatment before you begin, you can have a great start on your way to having more gorgeous teeth.
