Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Kanakos wanted to be a pediatric dentist for as long as she could remember. In her 5th-grade yearbook, she said she wanted to be a “dentist for kids.” That dream became reality when she studied Public Health in college and realized her passion for preventative health care. She saw how much of a difference early education and access to oral health care can have on a child’s long-term health. Pediatric dentistry was the perfect way to combine her love for working with children with a commitment to promoting lifelong healthy habits.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Kanakos graduated from The George Washington University for her undergraduate degree before studying at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine for her dental doctorate. She later received her Pediatric Dentistry Certificate from The University of Connecticut Pediatric Dentistry Residency, and she’s also proud to be a Board-Certified Pediatric Dentist by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Kanakos remains incredibly dedicated to expanding her knowledge and skills through continuing education. She’s also a member of several professional organizations, including the:
- American Dental Association
- Pennsylvania Dental Association
- American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Away from the dental office, Dr. Kanakos comes from a big, loving, Greek family, which grew in the summer of 2025 when she married her husband! Together, they love exploring Pennsylvania and spending quality time. She also enjoys listening to audiobooks, going on walks, cooking, trying new restaurants, traveling, and hanging out with family and friends. Her favorite fun fact is that when she was in college, she SoulCycled with Michelle Obama 3 times!
